ENERGY / MATTER / LIMITS
One material. Many machines. Refined Tears store and transfer finite energy; the surrounding apparatus determines whether that energy becomes light, motion or heat.
The Tears are a fictional mineral inspired by real electroactive materials and optomechanics. Their exceptional performance belongs to the world of The Divine Forge. These explanations describe the world’s physical model, not experimentally validated devices.
Electrical and structural metastable states retain usable energy. Resonance coordinates its transfer. Refining improves predictable behavior; a refined crystal can still be empty.
A device can have charge remaining and still stop because its temperature or calibration has left the safe operating window.
Charging stations receive energy from identified sources: geological gradients, moving machinery, light and powered infrastructure. Heat needs a conversion process and a temperature difference. Mechanical harvesting needs motion, changing deformation or the release of stored strain.
Refining and resonance never multiply the available energy.
A refined Tear powers an electromagnetic accelerator. A material projectile leaves the apparatus and continues through inertia. Gravity, wind and atmospheric resistance shape its flight.
The crystal remains with the apparatus. Physical ammunition, recoil, noise, wear and heat remain part of operation.
Useful output always comes with losses. Cooling moves heat elsewhere and consumes resources; it never erases heat.
Hot meridional conditions reduce thermal margin. Cold introduces ice, brittleness and calibration problems. Dust and salt increase wear and corrosion. Water scarcity shapes maintenance.
Vektor systems regulate and redistribute energy within connected infrastructure. They depend on compatibility, finite capacity, isolation and routes for dissipation.
Near active veins and sensitive vaults, an energetic disturbance may couple into the surrounding network. Risk depends on state, charge, connection and conditions.
The Ishkar monitors characteristic emissions and changes in the local system. Its readings are interpreted alongside temperature, mechanical condition and other instruments.
A reading does not neutralize a hazard. Tears are not generally explained as sources of nuclear gamma radiation.
| Application | Role of the Tears | Physical limit |
|---|---|---|
| Lighting | Supply and regulate emission | Finite charge, heat and wear |
| Heating and tools | Deliver energy to controlled processes | Insulation, materials and heat rejection |
| Pumps and ventilation | Power motors and mechanisms | Moving water and air requires work |
| Cooling | Power heat transfer | Heat must be rejected elsewhere |
| Steam railway | Support instruments, lighting and auxiliary equipment | Boiler, water, fuel and machinery remain essential |
| Hydrogen balloons | Support instruments and auxiliary services | Buoyancy comes from the lifting gas |
| Communication | Power and modulate signals | A physical path, noise and travel time |
| Medical instruments | Support specific controlled applications | Each application requires its own mechanism and limits |
| Later-saga robotics | Store and supply energy | Mass, autonomy, maintenance and heat |
Fire-projecting and chemical systems retain their own physical mechanisms. Tear-powered auxiliaries do not replace the properties of their working materials.
